Intrusive thoughts are unwanted thoughts, images or urges that arrive uninvited. They are common. They are not wishes, warnings or a sign of who you are.
Common Questions
Plain answers to help you feel prepared before your first session.

Do you take my insurance?
I'm out of network. I don't bill insurance, Medicare or Medicaid. Many plans with out-of-network benefits reimburse part of a session, and your plan decides what it pays. Call the number on your insurance card to ask.
What is a superbill, and how do I use it?
A superbill is an itemized monthly receipt you send to your plan, which may reimburse part of a session. It carries a diagnosis code, which your insurer sees. Your plan decides what, if anything, it reimburses.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of what care will cost before you start, and I give you one. The how fees work page explains your rights.
How much does it cost, and how do fees work?
I give you the fee in writing before you start, and I explain it in the first session. A limited number of reduced-fee spots may be open. The how fees work page has the full answer.
Can I use an HSA or FSA card?
Yes. You can pay each session by card, including HSA and FSA cards.
What happens in the first session?
We talk about what has been hard and what you hope for. I explain how sessions work, how privacy works and what its limits are. You share only what you are comfortable sharing, and you decide at the end whether to continue.
How often will we meet, and for how long?
Sessions are 50 minutes, usually weekly. We set the pace together and check in regularly about whether to continue. I don't promise a number of sessions.
Are you licensed where I live?
I'm a licensed psychologist in New York. I see clients in person in Manhattan and by video when you are in New York State when we meet.
What do I do in a crisis?
Call or text 988, any time. If you or someone else is in danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. This website and our voicemail are not monitored around the clock.
What is confidential, and what are the limits?
I keep your records private and share them only as the law allows. The limits include a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, and abuse reporting that the law requires. I explain them in the first session.
Do you see teens?
I work with adults, 18 and over. If you are looking for a teen, I'm glad to suggest where to look.
What is your cancellation policy?
I ask for 24 hours' notice. A session cancelled with less notice is charged the session fee. If something urgent comes up, tell me and we'll work it out.
